Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LXXXVIII— - GLEN CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION AREA › § 460dd–7
Require the Secretary of the Interior and Utah’s Highway Department to study and pick a specific route for a scenic, low-speed road from Glen Canyon City to Bullfrog Basin. The road must cross the Escalante River south of where the river enters Lake Powell when the lake is at the 3,700-foot level and must not cross the river north of Stephens Arch. The route should try to avoid environmental harm and does not have to meet normal secondary-road standards for slope, alignment, or curves. Turnouts, overlooks, and scenic views may be included. The study must give a reasonable schedule for engineering, planning, and building the road, and the Secretary must follow that schedule when possible. The Secretary may install markers and interpretive signs that meet safety rules. The study must also list other roads needed to use the area and connect to access routes. The Secretary and Utah Highway Department must send their findings and any recommended laws and funding needs to Congress within two years of October 27, 1972.
