The Secretary of the Interior can create and run the Buffalo National River to protect its unique scenic and scientific features and to keep a stretch of the Buffalo River free-flowing for people now and in the future. The river’s boundary is shown on the map titled “Proposed Buffalo National River” (NR–BUF–7103, December 1967) on file at the National Park Service. The Secretary may make small boundary changes after written notice to the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate, but the total area may not exceed 95,730 acres.
