Creates the Rio Grande Natural Area in Colorado to protect and restore the river’s natural, historic, cultural, scientific, scenic, wildlife, and recreational resources. It covers the Rio Grande from the southern boundary of the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge to the New Mexico border, and extends one-quarter mile on each side of the riverbank. As soon as possible after October 12, 2006, the Secretary must make an official map and legal description. The map and description are treated as part of the law, but the Secretary may fix minor errors. Copies are open for public inspection at Bureau of Land Management offices.
