Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER CXXXIII— - BRIDGEPORT WINTER RECREATION AREA › § 460vvv
About 7,254 acres in the Humboldt‑Toiyabe National Forest are named the Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area. A forest map dated September 17, 2008 shows the area. As soon as possible after March 30, 2009, the Secretary must file a map and legal description with the House Committee on Natural Resources and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. That filed map counts the same as if it were in the law, the Secretary can fix any errors, and the map must be available for the public at Forest Service offices. Until a new plan is finished, the area will follow the Toiyabe National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan of 1986 (as it was on March 30, 2009). Snowmobiles are allowed in winter when there is enough snow and under any conditions the Secretary sets. Within 1 year after March 30, 2009, the Secretary must run a public process to make a winter use plan that includes signs, public education on where to go, sanitation measures, monitoring and enforcement, and steps to protect the Trail. Enforcement must focus on stopping damage to natural resources, keeping motorized use from interfering with nonmotorized Trail users, and reducing conflicts. The Secretary must also create a snowmobile crossing where the map shows the Pacific Crest Trail crossing, following the National Trails System Act and environmental and safety laws, and with conditions to protect the Trail and land. This designation is not meant to limit activities at the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center.
