Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LXXXII— - SLEEPING BEAR DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE › § 460x–15
The President must tell the Senate and House by June 1, 1983 which parts of the lakeshore should or should not be wilderness. Until Congress decides otherwise, the Secretary must manage the areas named in the National Park Service report dated January 1981 so they keep their current wilderness character and remain able to join the National Wilderness Preservation System. Those areas include about 7,128 acres recommended for wilderness and about 23,775 acres as possible additions. Private property rights still apply.
