Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER LXXXII— - SLEEPING BEAR DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE › § 460x–5
The Secretary of the Interior must manage, protect, and develop Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore under the laws that guide the National Park Service. The Secretary may also use other conservation powers if those powers help the lakeshore’s goals. The Secretary must make and carry out a land and water use plan. The plan must provide public recreation facilities, protect scenic, scientific, and historic features, and manage renewable natural resources only in ways that support recreation and protection. Within four years from October 21, 1970, the Secretary must review the area and report to the President which parts are suitable or not for wilderness, following the procedures in section 1132(c) and (d). Public use areas must be placed so they do not reduce the value or enjoyment of any improved property there.
