The survey and investigation area is defined, and the Secretary may buy land just outside that area if needed for good management. Any extra land bought cannot be more than 320 acres. The land bought can only be used for headquarters, access routes (entrances and exits), or to straighten or round out boundaries. The area also includes the Punta Gorda Addition and the Southern Additions shown on the map titled "King Range National Conservation Area Boundary Map No. 2" dated July 29, 1975, and the King Range National Conservation Area Additions shown on the map titled "King Range Wilderness" dated November 12, 2004.
