Surveys, field notes, and plats made for public lands set aside as national forests under the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey under the Act of June 4, 1897 must be treated the same as surveys done by the Field Surveying Service. Subdivision surveys under the rectangular system, once approved by the Secretary of the Interior or a designee, and their certified copies must be filed in the land offices for the districts where the lands are located. Conflicting laws do not apply to these surveys. Every topographic or other map showing the forests, with its field notes, must be certified by the Director and filed with the Bureau of Land Management.
