Summary

Defines key words used in the chapter. "Caribbean" includes Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. "Conservation" means actions to restore neotropical migratory bird species so enough birds live in the wild for the species to survive long term; it covers protection and management of birds, caring for and restoring habitat, research and monitoring, law enforcement, and community outreach and education. "Fund" means the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Fund set up under section 6108(a). "Secretary" means the Secretary of the Interior.

In this chapter:

(1)The term “Caribbean” includes Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands.

(2)The term “conservation” means the use of methods and procedures necessary to bring a species of neotropical migratory bird to the point at which there are sufficient populations in the wild to ensure the long-term viability of the species, including—

(A)protection and management of neotropical migratory bird populations;

(B)maintenance, management, protection, and restoration of neotropical migratory bird habitat;

(C)research and monitoring;

(D)law enforcement; and

(E)community outreach and education.

(3)The term “Fund” means the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Fund established by section 6108(a) of this title.

(4)The term “Secretary” means the Secretary of the Interior.
