Task Force members must identify how their agency’s actions could affect coral reefs. They must use their agency’s programs and powers to protect and improve reefs, including supporting basic and applied scientific research, make sure reef funding needs show up in agency budget planning and justification, and carry out other coordinated activities the Task Force approves. Co‑chairs must handle the Task Force’s administrative work and help members coordinate. At least 30 days before each Task Force meeting, the NOAA program offices that carry out this law must brief the relevant congressional committees about the efforts and spending used to implement it.
