Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 86— - SOUTHWEST FOREST HEALTH AND WILDFIRE PREVENTION › § 6706
Within 5 years after October 5, 2004, and every 5 years after that, the Secretary and the Secretary of the Interior must send a review of each Institute to the House Committees on Resources and Agriculture and to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. The review must check whether an Institute’s research, communications, and information-sharing meet the chapter’s goals — managing ecosystems at the landscape level; lowering planning costs; avoiding duplicate or conflicting efforts; increasing public acceptance of active adaptive ecosystem management; and general satisfaction of affected parties. It must also check whether the Institute carried out duties in section 6704(c) and whether federal assistance should continue. If an Institute is found unqualified, it gets no more federal help under this chapter until the Secretaries are satisfied it meets the qualifications again.
