Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER VII— - REDWOOD NATIONAL PARK › § 79e
The Secretary can accept non‑federal land inside the park and nearby as allowed here. He may trade for Bureau of Land Management land in California that is listed for exchange, except land needed for public use or management. He may also use federal land in the Northern Redwood Purchase Unit in Del Norte County, California, except the Yurok Experimental Forest of approximately 935 acres. That federal land can be used instead of, or with, cash to pay fair compensation when the government takes other land under a related law. Trades should be about equal in value; if not, cash must be paid to balance them. When trading, the Secretary must try to limit economic harm and not disrupt the seller’s business.
