Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 103— - EXPANDING PUBLIC LANDS OUTDOOR RECREATION EXPERIENCES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - ACCESS AMERICA › Part Part A— - Access for People With Disabilities › § 8482
Within 7 years after January 4, 2025, the Secretary in charge must do a full check of high‑priority trails on the federal recreation lands they manage. For each trail they must measure average and minimum tread width, average and maximum running slope, average and maximum cross slope, the trail surface type, and the trail length. They must put the results on the public websites of each federal land agency and on pages for each relevant unit or subunit, with clear links. The Secretary must pick trails after talking with stakeholders (including veterans groups and groups that help people with disabilities), spread across the region, and covering at least 15 units or subunits. They may use assessments done before January 4, 2025 when practical. By the same deadline they must find where signs and web info should be updated to meet the Architectural Barriers Act and section 794 of title 29, and they may include photos or descriptions of trail obstacles. When posting trail details, they must note trails that do not meet the accessibility guidelines but might be usable with certain assistive technology.
