Congress may provide money to the Secretary to run this chapter and to pay the U.S. share of the Commission’s joint expenses under Article X of the Convention. The amounts are $5,770,000 for each of fiscal years 2007 and 2008; $6,058,000 for each of fiscal years 2009 and 2010; and $6,361,000 for each of fiscal years 2011 and 2013. From each year’s funding, $160,000 must be used for the advisory committee (section 971b) and the species working groups (section 971b–1). Also, $7,500,000 must be used for research under this chapter and section 971i, including $3,000,000 for the cooperative research program under section 971i(b)(2)(H).
