Title 17 › Chapter CHAPTER 13— - PROTECTION OF ORIGINAL DESIGNS › § 1312
You may take oaths or acknowledgments for filings under this chapter in the United States before anyone legally allowed to give oaths. Abroad, they may be taken before U.S. diplomatic or consular officers or before foreign officials whose power to give oaths is certified by a U.S. diplomatic or consular officer. They count as valid if they follow the law where they are made. The Administrator may let a written declaration be used instead of an oath for filings in the Office of the Administrator. That declaration must warn that false statements can lead to fine or imprisonment under section 1001 of title 18 and may jeopardize the application or any registration.
