Title 18 › Part PART II— - CRIMINAL PROCEDURE › Chapter CHAPTER 205— - SEARCHES AND SEIZURES › § 3116
The rule about filing search warrants and the papers that go with them was removed because the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure already cover that topic. The rule that was cited was Rule 41(f), which was later renamed Rule 41(g) by an amendment that took effect on October 1, 1972. In 1968, Public Law 90–578 changed the word “Commissioners” to “Magistrates.” That change became effective on October 17, 1968, except if the change took effect later when magistrates were actually appointed and took office; if so, it became effective on the earlier of that appointment date or the third anniversary of October 17, 1968. Later, the term “magistrate” was changed to “magistrate judge” by section 321 of Public Law 101–650 (see note under 28 U.S.C. 631).
