Title 18 › Part PART II— - CRIMINAL PROCEDURE › Chapter CHAPTER 227— - SENTENCES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER A— - GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 3555
When someone is found guilty of fraud or another crime that used deliberate deception, the judge can require them to tell the victims about the conviction and explain what happened. The judge can set the form of the notice — by mail, by ads in certain places or media, or by other suitable means. The judge must weigh the usual sentencing factors and the cost of giving notice compared to the victims’ losses. The judge cannot make the defendant pay more than $20,000 for the notice.
