Juveniles accused of delinquency may only be held in juvenile facilities or other suitable places the Attorney General chooses. When possible they should be placed in foster homes or local community programs, kept away from adult prisoners and usually separated from convicted youths, and given food, shelter, hygiene, clothing, recreation, schooling, and needed medical and mental‑health care.
