Title 18 › Part PART I— - CRIMES › Chapter CHAPTER 44— - FIREARMS › § 931
It is illegal for anyone convicted of a violent felony to buy, own, or have body armor. "Violent felony" means a crime of violence under federal law or a state crime that would be a crime of violence if it happened on federal land. A person can defend themselves in court if they got written approval from their employer beforehand saying the armor was needed for safe, lawful work and they only used it on the job. "Employer" means the worker’s supervisor, or if there is no supervisor, any other employee of the business.
