Title 19 › Chapter CHAPTER 11— - IMPORTATION OF PRE-COLUMBIAN MONUMENTAL OR ARCHITECTURAL SCULPTURE OR MURALS › § 2093
Pre-Columbian monumental or architectural sculptures or murals brought into the United States illegally must be seized and can be kept by the government under customs law. If the government keeps them, it must first offer them back to the country of origin. That country must pay the return costs and follow any other return rules the Secretary sets. If the country does not take them, the items will be handled like other goods seized under customs law.
