§179t Staff of Board; experts and consultants

Summary

The Librarian can hire staff and set their pay to carry out the work in sections 179l to 179w. The Librarian can also bring in temporary or on-and-off workers under section 3109(b) of title 5, but they may not be paid more than the daily equivalent of the maximum basic pay for GS‑15 of the General Schedule. Members of the Board and their alternates may not be paid as experts or consultants under this authority.

(a)The Librarian may appoint and fix the pay of such personnel as the Librarian considers appropriate to carry out sections 179l to 179w of this title.
(b)The Librarian may, in carrying out sections 179l to 179w of this title, procure temporary and intermittent services under section 3109(b) of title 5, but at rates for individuals not to exceed the daily equivalent of the maximum rate of basic pay payable for GS–15 of the General Schedule. In no case may a member of the Board or an alternate be paid as an expert or consultant under this section.
