Title 2 › Chapter CHAPTER 9— - OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES › Part Part II— - Administration › § 282a
The Legislative Counsel must hire the lawyers and staff needed to run the Office, but only with the Speaker’s approval or under rules the Speaker approves. Hiring and firing must be based on job fitness, not political party. The Legislative Counsel must name one or more Deputies to act if the Counsel is absent, disabled, or the post is vacant. If there is more than one Deputy, their order is set by a notice filed with the Speaker and the House Minority Leader. The Counsel may give duties to Deputies and other staff.
