Title 2 › Chapter CHAPTER 61— - SENATE LEADERSHIP › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER IV— - MAJORITY AND MINORITY SECRETARIES, CONFERENCES, AND POLICY COMMITTEES › § 6161
Lets the Secretary of the Senate Democratic conference give a member of the conference leadership control of the secretary’s funds and duties for a Congress. The Secretary does this by sending a letter to the Senate Disbursing Office at the Chair’s direction. The assignment covers control of money made available for the Office of the Secretary and the Secretary’s duties under section 6154, section 6156, or any other law for the duration of that covered Congress. “Applicable conference” = the Senate Democratic conference (majority or minority). “Covered Congress” = the 118th Congress and any later Congress. “Covered period” = starts when the Secretary sends the letter. “Designated officer” = the leader who is given the duties. For any employee who works for that leader during the covered period, references in the listed laws that normally point to the Office of the Secretary or to the Secretary (including the last sentence of 6314(e); subsection (b) of the first section of S. Res. 458 (98th Congress); section 207(e)(9)(M) of title 18; and section 220(e)(2)(C) of the Congressional Accountability Act (2 U.S.C. 1351(e)(2)(C))) will be read as referring to the designated officer’s office. This does not stop or change any ongoing case or action under the Congressional Accountability Act or under section 207 of title 18.
