From June 27, 1956 on, money from the Senate's "Contingent Expenses" fund must not pay per diem and subsistence at rates higher than those set by the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration. The committee can set higher rates for travel outside the continental United States and may allow actual-expense reimbursement up to its daily rate for travel inside the continental United States. The rule does not apply to per diem or travel costs for Senators and their office staff that are paid under section 6314 of this title.
