Defines key terms used in this chapter. "Indian art and culture" means traditional and modern ways Indians express language, history, arts you can look at, arts people perform, and crafts. "Native Hawaiian art and culture" means the same kinds of traditional and modern expressions for Native Hawaiians. "Institute" means the Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture and Arts Development set up under this chapter. "Indian" means a person who belongs to an Indian tribe. "Indian tribe" means a tribe, band, nation, or other organized Indian group or community, including any Alaska Native village under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, that the U.S. recognizes as eligible for special programs and services because they are Indians. "Native Hawaiian" means any descendant of someone who was native to the Hawaiian Islands before 1778. "Secretary" means the Secretary of the Interior. "Board" means the Board of Trustees of the Institute.
