Title 20 › Chapter CHAPTER 65— - NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION › § 5501
Create and support a national environmental education program for students and the people who teach and work with them. The program must act in schools, colleges, and related places, and it must encourage college students to choose jobs that deal with the environment. The law explains why this is needed: pollution and toxins in air, water, and land are getting more complex; global problems like warming, ocean pollution, and loss of species threaten health and nature; cities face big environmental and economic problems as well as rural areas; solving these problems needs knowledge of nature and built places and practical skills; the country needs more trained professionals; current federal support is not enough. The federal government, led by the EPA and working with schools, state education offices, nonprofits, public educational broadcasters, private groups, and agencies like the Forest Service, must help make curricula, projects, and programs to train and attract students into environmental fields.
