Title 20 › Chapter CHAPTER 65— - NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION › § 5503
The Environmental Protection Agency must create an Office of Environmental Education. The office will run and support programs to teach people about the natural and built world and how people affect it, including global environmental issues. It will make and share model curricula, learning materials, and training for K–12 students and other groups like seniors. The office will produce publications and media with partners, run seminars and workshops for educators, manage federal grants to schools, colleges, nonprofits, and public broadcasters, and run internship, fellowship, and awards programs. It will give staff help to advisory groups, work with other federal agencies (including the Department of Education and park, forest, and wildlife agencies) to coordinate programs and avoid overlap, assess needed professional skills, and provide information to state and local agencies. A Director in the Senior Executive Service must lead the office. The headquarters staff must be at least 6 and no more than 10 full-time equivalent employees. Each EPA regional office must have one full-time equivalent employee supporting it.
