Sets aside $20,000 from the Treasury to be used until it is all spent for the purposes described elsewhere in the law. When the Smithsonian is satisfied a State, school, or scientific group is ready and the project looks worthwhile, the Secretary of the Smithsonian may match their contribution from this money, dollar for dollar, up to $2,000 in any one State in a calendar year. The Smithsonian Secretary will control the joint work and how the results are shared. If the work is on land managed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs or the National Park Service, it must follow rules the Secretary of the Interior sets.
