Title 20 › Chapter CHAPTER 25A— - OVERSEAS DEFENSE DEPENDENTS’ EDUCATION › § 923a
The Secretary of Defense may let certain children attend DoD schools without paying tuition. That includes children of full‑time, locally hired DoD employees overseas who are U.S. citizens or nationals, and children of foreign military members assigned to Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers, Europe (only at the DoD school in Mons, Belgium) or to the United Nations Command (only at DoD schools in South Korea or Japan). DoD education funds may be used to pay for them. The Secretary must make rules that say how many of these children can enroll. The rules must use estimates based on dependents under section 932(2) and get advice from the geographic combatant commanders. If more children apply than the number set, the Secretary may allow extra children to enroll tuition‑free on a space‑available basis, even if section 923(d)(2) would otherwise limit enrollment.
