§928 School advisory committees

Title 20 › Chapter CHAPTER 25A— - OVERSEAS DEFENSE DEPENDENTS’ EDUCATION › § 928

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Director must set up an advisory committee for every school that serves military dependents. The committee will help the principal or superintendent run the school, can suggest changes to the curriculum and budget, and will advise the local military commander about education problems. If a base or overseas area has more than one school, the Director must instead make one committee for that installation or area to advise the commander. Each committee must have the same number of parents and school employees and may include a student when appropriate. There must also be one nonvoting member picked by the employees’ bargaining representative. Except for that nonvoting member, committee members are chosen by adults who live in the area served. The Secretary of Defense must write the rules for who can run and how elections work. Committee members are not paid.
