Title 20 › Chapter CHAPTER 79— - STEM-TRAINING GRANT PROGRAM › § 9902
The Director must create and run college programs that train STEM majors to become certified elementary and secondary teachers. The education department and the STEM departments at each college must work together to run the program. Students must enter by taking a classroom-based course and keep taking supervised classroom experiences led by master teachers. Colleges must hire enough master teachers so no more than 100 students share one master teacher. The program must teach research-based teaching methods, testing and assessment, how to teach subject matter (including how math and science connect), use of teaching technology, and how to use state and local standards. Courses made just for STEM teachers are only open to program students. Students must pass a final teaching evaluation based on classroom work observed by several trained reviewers and submit a portfolio of their work.
