Gives simple meanings for key words used in the chapter. A field-based course is a college course that requires students to teach at least 3 lessons or sequences to elementary or secondary students. An institution of higher education has the meaning given in section 1001 of this title. A master teacher has a master’s or doctoral degree, graduate coursework in math, science, computer science, or engineering, at least 3 years of K–12 teaching, and recognized or proven exceptional teaching. A mentor teacher is a K–12 classroom teacher who helps train those students. The Director means the Director of the National Science Foundation.
