Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 109— - BURMA UNIFIED THROUGH RIGOROUS MILITARY ACCOUNTABILITY › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - MATTERS RELATING TO THE CONFLICT IN BURMA › § 10211
Directs the United States to support the people of Burma and groups like the National Unity Government (NUG), National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), and the Burmese Civil Disobedience Movement in opposing the military junta. The U.S. must work to restore civilian rule with the military under civilian control, push for reforms that protect minorities and a federal system, and seek accountability for human-rights abuses including the February 2022 coup d’etat. It must press the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China for their support of the junta, secure the unconditional release of unlawfully detained people, and provide humanitarian aid in Burma, Bangladesh, Thailand, and the surrounding region without routing it through the Burmese military.
