The United States Information Agency must promote American interests by improving relations with other countries through wide sharing of ideas, information, and cultural and educational programs. It must run government programs that explain U.S. policies and culture and help Americans learn about others; encourage and support private exchange programs; coordinate international information, education, and cultural work across U.S. agencies; help shape national international communications policy; and promote U.S. participation in international events.
