Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 32— - FOREIGN ASSISTANCE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT › Part Part VII— - Debt-for-Nature Exchanges › § 2283
The Administrator of the Agency for International Development must try to make debt-for-nature deals fund nine kinds of conservation work by the host government, local conservation groups, or both. These include protecting or restoring oceans and the atmosphere; saving plants and animals; creating and caring for parks and reserves; improving natural resource, land, and ecosystem management; supporting local conservation programs and training; raising public awareness; and promoting regenerative farming, forestry, fishing, and watershed practices. Working with nongovernmental organizations, the Administrator must find places facing immediate threats to unique species or ecosystems. The Administrator must also encourage as many eligible countries as possible to offer these exchanges so many governments can see the benefits of sustainable development.
