Up to 12 Senators will meet once per Congress with Japan’s Diet to talk about shared issues. Meetings alternate between Japan and Washington, D.C. The Senate President appoints them each Congress, including Chair and Vice Chair, on recommendations of majority and minority leaders. Up to $100,000 per Congress is authorized for expenses. The Chair must approve payments and certify spending each Congress. These rules start in fiscal year 2008.
