Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 8— - FOREIGN SERVICE BUILDINGS › § 300
The Secretary of State can sell, trade, rent, or license property used for embassies and consulates in the U.S. or abroad. The Secretary can accept payment in any form, including goods, for damage or loss to those buildings and their contents. The Secretary can also accept gifts of property or services, including by will, for these purposes. Money from those sales, payments, or gifts must be used for buying, building, or other purposes allowed under this law or put into the Foreign Service Buildings Fund, as the Secretary decides. The Secretary must report these transactions to Congress each year with the State Department’s budget estimates. Money from selling furniture, fixtures, or equipment from foreign posts must go into the Foreign Service Buildings Fund and can be spent as the Secretary directs.
