Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 47— - NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - UNITED STATES INITIATIVES TO STRENGTHEN THE INTERNATIONAL SAFEGUARDS SYSTEM › § 3241
The United States will keep supporting the Treaty on the Non‑Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and will work with other countries to make the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stronger and its safeguards more effective. To do this, the United States will provide money, technical help, and other support, and will make sure the IAEA has the resources it needs to carry out Article XII of the IAEA Statute. The United States will push to improve IAEA safeguards so the agency can quickly detect any taking or redirecting of nuclear materials that could be used in a nuclear explosive device, quickly share that information, and promptly follow agreed international steps if such a diversion is found. It will also make sure the IAEA gets the data it needs on time and that the IAEA tells the world promptly about any evidence of a safeguards violation. Where allowed by its Statute, the IAEA should also give supplier countries the information they need to confirm that nuclear exports meet their bilateral agreements.
