Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 56— - UNITED STATES INSTITUTE OF PEACE › § 4603
Creates the United States Institute of Peace as an independent nonprofit. It is the kind of organization described in section 170(c)(2)(B) of title 26. The Institute cannot issue stock or pay dividends. The Board may set up, under District of Columbia law, a separate legal entity to receive, hold, and invest public funds and call it the "Endowment of the United States Institute for Peace." The Institute is responsible for acts of its directors, officers, employees, and agents when they act with proper authority. Only the Institute may allow or forbid use of its name, the Jennings Randolph Program for International Peace, the Spark M. Matsunaga Medal of Peace, the Endowment name, and any official emblems or seals. That control must not conflict with rights already established on September 1, 1981. The Institute may use "United States" or "U.S." in its title or marks in any fiscal year only if a law authorizes appropriations for the Institute for that fiscal year.
