§6821 Establishment

Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 76— - ASSISTANCE TO COUNTRIES WITH LARGE POPULATIONS HAVING HIV/AIDS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - WORLD BANK AIDS TRUST FUND › Part Part A— - Establishment of the Fund › § 6821

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Secretary of the Treasury must try to reach agreements with the World Bank and others, working with the USAID Administrator, other U.S. agencies, World Bank member countries, and interested parties, to create a World Bank AIDS Trust Fund and an Advisory Board for it. The Trust Fund’s money is meant to help prevent and treat HIV/AIDS and to support programs that give health care and primary and secondary schooling to children orphaned by the epidemic. A Board of Trustees made up of representatives from donor countries should run the Trust Fund. Board members must have experience in public health, epidemiology, health care (including delivery systems), and development. When the Treasury Secretary certifies to Congress that the agreement is in effect, the United States will have one Board member appointed by the President with the Senate’s approval. That U.S. Board seat ends when the Trust Fund ends.
