Provide U.S. aid to make Afghanistan and the world safer by reducing attacks on U.S. and allied forces and lowering the chance Afghanistan becomes a base for international terrorism. Help with the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and for Afghan refugees in nearby countries. Fight illegal drug production and the flow of chemicals used to make heroin, and help Afghan officials control poppy farming. Support building an inclusive, multi-ethnic, gender-sensitive government that respects human rights, especially for women, and fund reconstruction focused on education, health, and food for women and children. Help the Afghan government run projects, involve civil society in government building, create jobs, clear landmines, rebuild farms, health care, and schools, fund the Ministry for Women’s Affairs for legal aid, training, and health programs, and promote a pluralistic society that respects religious freedom.
