Employees of the Corporation, including people detailed to it or hired under contract, can be posted to U.S. embassies, consulates, or USAID field missions overseas. The Secretary of State must try to get these employees and their family members the same diplomatic protections and immunities as U.S. Foreign Service staff of similar rank and pay. They are also covered by section 3927 like U.S. government employees, but only if they are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where they serve.
