With help from the Secretary, the Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, and the Ambassador‑at‑Large for War Crimes Issues, the President must collect information on possible genocide, crimes against humanity, slavery, or other violations of international humanitarian law. The President must also consider steps to make sure any government, leader, or senior official responsible for those crimes is held accountable in a proper court.
