Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 94— - IRAN THREAT REDUCTION AND SYRIA HUMAN RIGHTS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER VI— - GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 8783
Does not apply to work to develop natural gas and to build or run a pipeline from Azerbaijan to Turkey and Europe if the project gives Turkey and European countries energy security and independence from the Russian government and similar governments, and if the project started before August 10, 2012 under a production‑sharing deal, a related agreement, or a license from a government other than Iran. The exemption ends if the President tells Congress that, compared with January 1, 2002, an Iranian‑related entity has increased its ownership share in the project or has taken an operational role. An "Iranian‑related entity" means an entity owned or controlled by Iran’s government, organized under Iranian law or with its approval, any entity it owns or controls, or a successor to one of those.
