Title 25 › Chapter CHAPTER 17— - FINANCING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF INDIANS AND INDIAN ORGANIZATIONS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER IV— - INDIAN BUSINESS GRANTS › § 1522
Limits how much money can be given and who can get it. Grants may not be more than $100,000 for an individual Indian or $250,000 for an Indian tribe, unless the Secretary sets a lower limit. The Secretary can only approve a grant if they think the applicant cannot get enough financing elsewhere, and before approving must check that the applicant has, when practical, tried to use their own money. Also, no grant can be made if the applicant cannot get at least 60% of the needed funds from other sources.
