Title 25 › Chapter CHAPTER 9— - ALLOTMENT OF INDIAN LANDS › § 2
Congress says the United States will help make a permanent settlement of land claims tied to the White Earth Indian Reservation in Minnesota. Many current and possible lawsuits about land for allottees, heirs, and the White Earth Band involve lots of different people and are causing hardship and uncertainty for the tribe, state and local governments, and non‑Native residents. Those lawsuits cost a lot of time and money and hurt people’s well‑being on the reservation. The White Earth Band, Minnesota, and local governments have tried to reach a settlement, and federal help under this law will make a lasting, fair settlement possible. Past U.S. laws added to the confusion, and resolving these claims is in the long‑term interest of everyone involved.
