Title 25 › Chapter CHAPTER 25— - OLD AGE ASSISTANCE CLAIMS SETTLEMENT › § 2304
The Secretary must search Department of the Interior records to find people who are owed part of any unauthorized payments and figure how much each person should get. If the Secretary finds a person’s name, location, and the amount owed, the Secretary must pay that amount right away, with interest as provided in section 2302, without making the person file a formal claim. The Secretary must notify each identified person using the best methods available, including direct notice, telling next of kin, notifying the tribe’s leader, or publishing a notice in local newspapers.
