Title 25 › Chapter CHAPTER 30— - INDIAN LAW ENFORCEMENT REFORM › § 2806
Secretary can investigate crimes under United States law that happen in Indian country, but only if there is an agreement with the U.S. Attorney General. Bureau employees must work with whatever law enforcement agency has the primary responsibility for the case. Any law enforcement commissions or delegations given by the Secretary before August 18, 1990 stay valid. This law adds authority; it does not change the civil or criminal jurisdiction or law‑enforcement powers of the United States, tribes, states, or other agencies, except for the Secretary's added role.
