Indian reservation covers reservations, public domain allotments, former Oklahoma reservations, and lands held by Native groups or corporations under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. Indian tribe and tribal organization are defined in section 5304. Inter-tribal consortium is a partnership of tribes or tribal organizations. Local child protective services agency is the federal, state, or tribal agency mainly responsible for child protection in a reservation or Indian country community. Local law enforcement agency is the federal, tribal, or state police mainly responsible for investigating alleged child abuse in the area. Persons responsible for a child’s welfare are people with legal or recognized duty to care for a child, including staff or volunteers at children’s residential facilities and people who provide out-of-home care, education, or services. Related assistance includes counseling, self-help, health-care referrals (including treatment for alcohol or drug abuse), and may include food, clothing, child care, transportation, and emergency help for victims and dependents. Secretary is the Secretary of the Interior. Shelter is temporary refuge and help (safe homes, meals, and related services) provided under applicable federal and tribal rules. Service is the Indian Health Service in the Department of Health and Human Services.
