Title 25 › Chapter CHAPTER 41— - INDIAN LANDS OPEN DUMP CLEANUP › § 3904
When an Indian tribal government or Alaska Native entity asks, the Director must check open dumps on their lands. The Director will list and assess each dump, work with the Environmental Protection Agency and get the EPA’s agreement on how serious each threat is, decide if extra testing is needed, and make cost estimates for closing the dump and for maintaining it after closure. After that work, the Director must give money and technical help to close and maintain specific dump sites. The Director sets which sites get help first, talking with the tribe and using the threat ratings and available funds to decide.
